Alphonso Davis has insisted Bayern Munich will not be as defensive as they are against Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie. Bayern

host Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena in the first leg and then travel to the Bayern Arena next week.

The two sides have met three times this season, drawing both times in the Bundesliga and losing the DFB-Pokal in December.

The last time the two sides met in February, the Bavarians played a differently defensive style of play as the score ended in a goalless draw

and Bayern failed to have a shot on target for the second time since 1992. But Davis says this will be different.

“We have played them many times and know how they play, but tomorrow is not a day to be patient and defend,” Davis said.

The Canada international left-back has won the Bundesliga every season since joining Bayern in 2019 until they lost the title last season to unbeaten Leverkusen.

However, the 24-year-old says the rivalry between the two sides has developed into a serious rivalry.

“We’ve met three times in one season and we haven’t beaten them, but we know that and it’s not going to stop us from playing our game and our football.”
